Visakapatnam: Police Commissioner of Visakhapatanam RK Meena requested people here to not panic about gas leakage and said the order to only evacuate 2 KM Radius of the surrounding gas leakage area is just a precautionary measure.

People beyond 2 Kilometer radius don’t need to evacuate or come out on the road. Everything is under control. The repair works were done. The news of blast or leakages of gas etc in the wee hours at around 2am are all basseles and fake, says Vizag West MLA Ganabau, who visited the plant in the early hours of Friday.

On Thursday, Styrene Gas leaked in the Gas Plant of LG Polymers in RR Venkatapuram Village in Visakhapatnam District and claimed 11 lives with 5000 falling sick. Reliable sources say that there was a Technical glitch in the refrigeration unit attached to the Two Styrene Tanks at a Chemical Plant causing vapour leak.

PTBC (Para-tertiary butyl Catechol) brought to Visakhapatnam from Gujarat on Air India Cargo Flight to neutralize the leak.
