Lockdown likely to continue post May 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a video conference with chief ministers to discuss the situation arising due to COVID-19 in the countr.y, which is under a 40-day lockdown since March 25 to contain the pandemic even as Meghalaya said it will continue with the shutdown post May 3 with relaxations in ‘Green Zones’ or non-COVID affected districts.

Modi said that the impact of COVID-19 would remain visible in coming months and that masks and face covers would be part of life.the PM has hinted that lockdown will be extended in the hotspots, while restrictions will be eased . Lockdown has yielded positive results and the country has managed to save thousands of lives in past one-and-half months,”he added.

He also suggested the chief ministers to direct the efforts of states towards converting COVID-19 red zones into orange and then to green zones.This is Modi’s fourth such interaction with state chief ministers since March 22 .
