Dr. Smitha Kiran conducted health awareness program to the Sanyasa Sangam

Santhigiri : Today the third day (Wednesday 28/09/2022), along with prayers, on the occasion of Sanyasadeeksha anniversary, an awareness class was held at Guruvinte Udayanam at 8 pm. Dr. Smitha Kiran, Associate Professor at Sree Gokulam Medical College conducted the health awareness class to the sannyasa Sangam. The doctor had particularized the lifestyle diseases and its effects. Diabetes, hypertension and obesity top the list of lifestyle diseases. Lifestyle diseases are caused by diet, lack of exercise, air pollution and mental stress. We are the second highest population of diabetics in the world. Kerala is the capital for diabetes.

Diabetes mainly leads to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease. Doctor warned not to take diabetic lightly . If there is a possibility of hereditary diabetes you should take precautions. The doctor further said that diabetic patients should give special attention to their feets and regularly check their feet at least once a week.

The Second most problem is obesity in our country. The two type of obesity. “Apple “ -shaped obesity, or excess fat around the abdomen and hips, mainly seen in Asian countries; which lead to fatty liver and diseases like liver cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis are seen only in alcoholics, is now occurring in non-alcoholics as well. Obesity can also cause hypothyroidism. Losing weight is important. Body Mass Index awareness was given by doctor. Obesity can lead to various diseases such as cholesterol, liver failure and obesity. Fatty liver types – 1, 2 and 3 are mostly seen by Women and children.

The doctor advised to consult the doctors at periodical time and undergo diagnostic tests without self treatment. People having blood pressure should have regular eye and heart check up. Along with diabetes and high blood pressure, diseases like stomach cancer are also increasing, due to diet and lack of exercise, if we seek proper lifestyle i.e through diet and exercise (for 20 to 30 minutes) we can prevent to a extent. Exercise can help you to lose weight and lower blood pressure. Minimizing mental stress lead to good health.

Post covid diseases is the major problem facing by the society, Post covid health problems are headache, fatigue, irritability, depression. She further said person affected by covid should not ignore even minor symptoms and should use masks properly. Case of covid has been increasing day by day in hospital. Mask and Sanitizer cannot be avoided from day to day life. Doctor replied to the doubts of Guru Dharma Prakasa Sabha Members that the people in the ashram are vegetarians, there will be vitamin B12 deficiency so it is advisable to serve vitamin supplements as prescribed by the doctor.
