Sannyasa Deeksha Varshikam: Satsangs at Branch Ashrams

Pothencode: Satsangs will begin today (Monday, October 16, 2023) in Santhigiri Branch Ashrams on the 39th Sannyasa Deeksha Varshikam. Satsang is scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Apart from the Central Ashram, the Branch Ashrams have also become vibrant with the commencement of ten days of fasting and prayers. Every day, the families of sannyasins and Brahmacharins gather along with other devotees to participate in prayers and rituals at the Ashrams. Various offerings including annadanam are also taking place.

The Sannyasa Sangha of Santhigiri is named by Guru as “Guru Dharma Prakasha Sabha”. The first Sannyasa Deeksha took place at Santhigiri Ashram on October 4, 1984, on the day of Vijaya Dashami. Navajyothi Sri Karunakara Guru initiated 31 disciples that day. Sannyasa Deeksha Varshikam is celebrated from then on every Vijaya Dashami.

On initiation, the Sannyasins are given saffron clothes and a new name. The title of “Jnana Thapaswi” is added to the name of male sannyasins and “Jnana Thapaswini” to women. This time, 22 brahmacharinis who were serving in the Ashram will be given initiation. The vows and prayers started on the 15th and will conclude on Tuesday, October 24, the day of Deeksha Varshikam. Preparations are on to organize elaborate programs on that day at Pothehcode Central Ashram.
