Japanese Dancer Performs Bharatanatyam in Santhigiri

Pothencode: Kaname Tomiyasu came from Japan for performing Bharatanatyam dance during Navapoojitham celebrations. She performed Bharatanatyam under the auspices of Santhigiri Vishwa Samskriti Kalarangam at 9 pm after the Deepa Pradakshinam in the Ashram. She performed at the reception ceremony welcoming former President Sri Ramnath Kovind and in the inaugural Navapoojitham Meeting. Kanemi came to know more about Santhigiri Ashram and the Guru through Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi, Ashram General Secretary, while he was in Delhi. Kaname’s wish to perform Bharatanatyam in Guru’s abode was fulfilled on Navapoojitham Day. Kaname was felicitated by Janani Kripa Jnana Thapaswini and Janani Renuroopa Jnana Thapaswini. From 9 pm, various art programs of Vishwa Samskriti Kalarangam were staged.

Kaname’s love for the warmth of Indian culture made her study Bharatanatyam. Although born in Thailand, Kaname studied and grew up in New Delhi. She studied at the Japanese School in New Delhi till March 2018. She has been practicing Bharatanatyam since she was four years old. She made her debut at the age of eleven under her Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan, the founder of Ganesha Natyalaya, a performing arts institution in Delhi. Kaname is also active in working with embassies to promote Indian and Japanese cultures.
