Covid-19: Cases breach 5,000-mark

The total number of confirmed infections in the country is now 5,072, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said at the ministry’s daily Covid-19 media briefing here Wednesday (April 15).So far, 2,647 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began. The rate of Covid-19 recovery in Malaysia is 52.2% out of the total number of positive cases.Currently, there are a total of 2,342 active cases and all patients are under isolation and receiving treatment at the country’s health facilities.A total of 56 patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with 32 of them requiring the use of ventilators. Dr Noor Hisham also reported one new death, which brings the Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia to 83 cases. This translates to a fatality rate of 1.64% out of the total number of cases.The 83rd fatality was a 69-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure.He had been receiving treatment at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre since March 21 and passed away at 6.41am on April 15.Malaysia has entered the third phase of the movement control order (MCO), where movement continues to be heavily restricted and people have been instructed to stay at home.

The MCO is scheduled to end on April 28.
