Keralite included in COVID vaccine research team of US

A keralite is included in the team that researchers on the covid vaccine in America. Thrissur Pazhayannur native Dr Shyam Manbully, a research fellow at the Centre for Vaccine Research ,in the University of Pittsburgh,is the malayali presence in the team. It was t Pittsburgh University that developed polio vaccine for the first time in the world.This centre functions in cooperation with the Serum Institute in Pune.The COVID vaccine aims to provide resistance power to prevent the virus from entering body and to destroy it if the virus already infected the body.The vaccine develops anitbody and protects cells from the virus. Dr Shyam said that they are trying to develop the vaccine from spike protein from SAARS Coronavirus 2 and neutralized measles virus.The measles vaccine was included in the experiment as it is one of the most vaccines in the world.All three phases of experiments including the trial on monkeys were successful.
