Anniversary of Sannyasa Deeksha at Santhigiri: 19 Brahmacharis to be Initiated into Sannyasa. 80 Youths to become Brahmacharis.

 

Pothencode: Nineteen more adherents are going to take up Sannyasa in Santhigiri Ashram, and about eighty youngsters will join the group of ascetics ( Brahmacharis) on Wednesday, October 5, the 38th Sannyasa Deeksha Varshikam of the Ashram.  Gurusthaniya Abhivandhya Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini will give initiation to them at Sahakarana Mandiram. One of the sanyasis is Stefan Schisse, a German national. This is the first time that a foreigner is being initiated into Sannyasa in the Ashram. With this, the strength of Sannyasa Sangam of the Ashram will increase to 105 from the earlier 86. Five of those who join the Brahmachari-Brahmacharini group on Vijayadashami day are from outside Kerala.

The first Sannyasa Deeksha took place on October 4, 1984 in Santhigiri. Navajyoti Sri Karunakara Guru had initiated 31 people that day. The name given by the Guru to the Sannyasa Sangha of Santhigiri is ‘Gurudharma Prakasha Sabha’. Then every year on Vijayadashami day, Sannyasa Deeksha Varshikam is duly celebrated. Along with the initiation, saffron clothes and a new name will be given. Along with the name, males are designated as ‘Jnana Tapasvi’ and females as ‘Jnana Tapaswini’.

The prayer meetings and satsangs that started on the 26th will conclude on the anniversary day. The ceremony will begin with worship at 6 o’clock in the morning on that day. At 7 a.m., a special Pushpanjali of the Sannyasa Sangha and the Brahmacharis will be held at the Lotus Parnashala. After the 12 o’clock worship, the initiation ceremony will take place.

Eminent people from the spiritual, social, political and cultural fields will attend the function. In the afternoon there will be Guru Pooja and various other dedications. At 6 in the evening after worship there will be flower offering followed by Deepa Pradakshinam.

Santhigiri Healthcare & Research Organization In-Charge Swami Gurusavith Jnana Thapasvi, Senior General Managers D. Pradeep Kumar, T.K. Unnikrishna Prasad and AGM Padmakumar addressed a press conference at the Ashram Spiritual Zone Conference Hall.
