Pothencode (Thiruvananthapuram): Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that Navajyothi Sree Karunakara Guru was the great Guru who spread the message of unity to the world. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 96th Navapoojitham celebrations at Santhigiri Ashram. The culture of India transcends any differences of language, caste, religion and colour. It is based upon the lineage of Gurus. When mankind is faced with grave darkness, Gurus are born into the world to spread light. The Governor also commented that Navajyothi Sree Karunakara Guru’s work aimed at uplifting the spiritual and cultural elements of society along with the living conditions of the people.

Santhigiri Ashram President Swami Chaitanya Jnana Thapaswi presided over the ceremony and Sri Lankan Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella was the chief guest. He also said that discipline of the mind is the basis of spirituality and that this spiritual learning is obtained from Santhigiri. He was felicitated on stage by members of the Santhigiri Ashram Gurudharmaprakashasabha. The former opposition leader, Ramesh Chennithala, delivered the keynote address on the occasion. He said that Sree Karunakara Guru stood for peace and co-existence of mankind and that harmony is what is necessary for this, not conflict. Santhigiri Ashram General Secretary Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi graced the occasion with his revered presence. BJP State Vice President A. N. Radhakrishnan, Manickal Gram Panchayat President Kuthirakulam Jayan, Rtd. Districts Sessions Judge Murali Sridhar and Santhigiri Social Research Institute Senior Fellow Dr. Gopinathapilla K were also present for the occasion. Santhigri Ashram Organising Secretary Swami Gurumithran Jnana Thapaswi delivered the welcome speech and the International Operations Section In-Charge Swami Janananma Jnana Thapaswi delivered the vote of thanks. More than 500 devotees from different areas participated in the function.

This event marks the beginning of the Navapoojitham celebrations, which will last for seven days. Mammootty will inaugurate the ‘Janmagrihasamuchayam’ at Guru’s birthplace in Chandiroor at 5 pm on the 28th (Sunday). State Ministers, MLAs and various other social leaders and representatives will participate in the cultural conference to be held on the 29th (Monday) at 6 pm. The Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani will inaugurate the meeting to be held on the 30th (Tuesday) at 4 pm. On Wednesday, the 31st, a friendly gathering will be held at Subramaniam Hall, Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram from 5 pm onwards. The conference to be held on the day of Navapoojitham – September 1, Thursday – at 11.30 am, will be inaugurated by the Governor of Goa, Adv. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai. Prominent businessman M. A. Yusuff Ali will be the chief guest. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the concluding session at 6 pm. Prominent personalities across the political, social, artistic, cultural and spiritual fields will participate in these various gatherings and conferences. The celebrations of this year’s Navapoojitham will be dedicated on the 20th of September, for the Poorna Kumbhamela.
