Indian cricket coach Ravi Shastrik turns 58 today

Born on May 27, 1962 in Bombay, Ravi Shankar Jaya Duttasastri is an Indian cricket coach, former commentator and head coach of the national cricket team. Shastri, a native of Mangalore, was educated at Don Bosco High School in Matunga. He took cricket seriously as a teenager, played for his school in 1976, and reached the final of the Inter School Gains Shield, but lost out in 1977 to his team, Gainschild. Later, he got his own personal education at Podar College where he studied commerce.

He played for the Indian team from 1981 to 1992 and began his career as a left-arm spin bowler, later becoming a batting all-rounder. He made his Test debut in February 1981 against New Zealand.
As a batsman, he made his trademark ‘Chapati Shot’ in world cricket and captained only one Test match, playing for Bombay in domestic cricket, winning the Ranji Trophy and retiring at age 31.
In 2014, the BCC Director sat for six months and was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in 2017 ….!
