Heavy rain disrupts normal life in Kodagu; Locals fear another flood

Madikeri: The Kodagu district is witnessing heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours and the locals are now reeling under the fear of yet another flood and landslides.

According to the IMD sources, in the last 24 hours, the district received 36 MM rainfall. The inflow into the river Cauvery has increased substantially.

Authorities informed that the road connecting Bhagamandala and Talacauvery has partially submerged in Cauvery river water. Bhagamandala temple is also surrounded by floodwater.

According to the latest weather forecast issued by the IMD, Kodagu is expected to receive heavy rainfall till tomorrow 8.30 am. The authorities have requested people to vacate the dangerous areas for safety.

Two NDRF teams are on stand by mode in Madikeri town to face any crisis.

It can be recalled that in the first week of August, the district witnessed floods and landslides. Five persons including Talacauvery temple Chief Priest Narayan Achar, his wife and three other family members died in the landslide.
