From the Police force to Sannyasa Sangha: A Blessed Moment for CP Manoj Kumar

Pothencode: An Officer from the State Police is joining the group of Sannyasis in Santhigiri Ashram. For Thalassery – Panoor resident C.P. Manoj Kumar, this is a blessed moment in his life. ‘As a child, I was not very interested in institutions like Ashrams. The Ashram concept in my mind was from the movie Ekalavyan’, said Manoj Kumar.

He visited the Ashram for the first time in 1997 on the invitation of a close relative. ‘Santhigiri Ashram was different from the picture of Ashrams in mind. I saw the faces of father, mother and children standing happily in the Ashram. Guruvani’s inscribed on the walls of the Ashram made an imprint in my mind.’

Manoj Kumar told Santhigiri News that he thought it was a good concept and he felt a close affinity with Navajyoti SreeKarunakara Guru. Once he came to see Guru with his family on the day of Gurujayanthi. ‘We started visiting the Ashram, often. Guru once told my father, who was struggling due to financial problems, that no one will come to catch hold of your neck because of debt. Those words were a great comfort to my father. At every crisis time in life, Guru was with us as a shadow.

Manoj got a job in the Police Department in July 1999. He served in KAP 4th Battalion, State Rapid Action Force, and Kannur Armed Reserve. He accepted the vow of celibacy in 2008. Due to the difficulty of continuing in the Police Department, he wanted to resign from his job, but Gurusthaniya Abhivandya Shishya Poojitha did not allow him. The suggestion was ‘not now, let the time come’.

He served in State Crime Records Bureau from 2012 to 2018. Since 2018, he is serving as Assistant Sub Inspector in State Special Branch. After the duty hours, he used to be active in various activities of the Ashram. He is an Assistant Sub-Inspector and is preparing to voluntarily retire from the Police force after receiving initiation into Sannyasa.

On October 5, 2022, CP Manojkumar will also be initiated into Sannyasa Deeksha along with nineteen others by Gurusthaniya Abhivandya Shishya Poojitha. He is the son of Vasu-Vasanthi couple, and has three siblings. He told Santhigiri News that all the family members will participate in the Sannyasi Deeksha Varshikam.
